While The Boys Were Gone....

This past week my mom invited the boys to attend VBS at her church. She came and picked them up and brought them home. This left me and Jeff home for 3 hours each evening! Here's how our week progressed....

Monday - totally clueless. What on earth do we do with a quiet house? I can understand a bit of how empty nesters must feel. Jeff and I just looked at each other. This was different than just going on a date which we try to do often. This was home and the boys are always home. Do we take advantage of projects lying around, take time for ourselves, or do our own thing? We ended up watering our garden and flowers and talk about how weird it was. Not quite a productive night.

Tuesday - I worked so Jeff had the evening to himself. He got to work on updating his barn project with no interruptions for a couple of hours. He loved the time alone!

Wednesday - Our 9 year anniversary and we got to slip away to Fort Wayne for a romantic dinner at Club Soda. It was a great night of sharing, reflecting and dreaming about our future. It would have been even better if I would not have gotten food poisoning a couple hours later. :(

Thursday - I worked again and Jeff worked around the house and mowed the yard.

Friday - At the last minute we decided to run to Marion for a few errands and swing over to Upland for some icecream at Ivanhoes. This was so much for to just up and decide to leave and not have to get a sitter! Again we had great conversation and discovered that Meijer is a great store and I may just start going to Marion to buy my groceries from now on.

We had a great week learning that we can still be a couple and not just parents together. We also got time to ourselves to just work on what we love to do. This time together spilled into our weekend which has meant lots of laughs and quality time together. We needed this and didn't realize it. It has opened our eyes to the time we need to invest into each other. Our life is ever changing whether we are leading new ministries, going through a busy work season or our current season of beginning a new journey in homeschooling. There is always something and we desire to put into place standing opportunities to grow as a couple. Yesterday we saw an old pastor who encouraged us and reminded us that we are a pretty special couple and even though marriage isn't perfect or pretty at times, the Lord shines through us as we continue to seek Him. I thank the Lord for this special week together to remind us how special our marriage truly is and how perfect we are for each other! It truly was a great week of celebrating our marriage and the beginning of our 10th year together.
